Different Wallets for Different Jobs – How Wallets Are Affected by Our Work

At Allett, we are firm believers in the minimalist wallet. Even our “largest wallet” is still designed with minimalism in mind, as we have created wallets that are ultra thin, perfectly utilize space, and fit comfortably in the pocket.

But, even with that in mind, we know that there are different wallets for different people. Some people require only the smallest wallet imaginable. Others need as many pockets as possible. Some people need wallets to handle rough work. Others need wallets that look extra professional.

We spoke with people in different careers to find out how they use their wallets and what kind of wallet they need for their day to day life, so that you can get an idea of what wallets fit best with you.

Micah A: Marketer and Business Owner at Great Leap Studios and High Volt Digital

“My businesses operate out of my house, which means that I spend like 75% of my time sitting alone. I need my wallet regularly for my business credit card, but most of the time my wallet is not in use. The problem is that I go out regularly and meet business owners interested in my services, which means that I often have to hand out business cards without notice. I typically need to keep about 5 business cards on me, and make sure that my wallet looks professional when I take it out of my pocket. I use Allett’s leather ID wallet. It has space for about 6 business cards, my credit cards, and my ID, which is all I need on the day to day.”

Karri A: Sales Lead for Commercial Contractors at Patterson Whittaker Architectural Profiles

“I hand out a lot of business cards. I probably go through like 10 a week, maybe even 20 to 40 if I go to a convention or anywhere where there are a lot of other contractors. I usually need a wallet that is large enough to fit as many business cards as possible so that I don’t have to fumble around for more of them. I have to be professional, but I also need to move a lot and I go to a lot of places with chemicals and dirt, so I prefer to use durable nylon wallets. Something like the black version of the Original Wallet Nylon Edition typically works best for me, since it fits all my cards but breathes and is easy to handle and clean.”

Mike D: Pest Control Tech/Owner of Adapt Pest Management

“I don’t know if you know the Sacramento area, but it’s extremely hot here. I don’t hand out a lot of business cards either, and I am always in contact with chemicals, so I try to keep what I carry on me at all times to a minimum. I need, at most, a small nylon wallet that I can wash that will keep my ID, credit card, and maybe a few other things. Nothing fancy, but also nothing that will deteriorate easily.”

Samantha T: Manager of LyteSpeed Learning and Sparkle Foundation

“I am always out there, always talking to people, always trying to make sure that I can help people and that they can learn more about me. I like the idea of being a ‘Power Woman’ – someone that knows how to help people succeed and has been successful herself. I have multiple businesses and organizations, so I have multiple credit cards and business cards to hand out, and I want to show people that I care about being professional, so I typically lean towards larger wallets that fit a lot of credit and business cards, and prefer leather wallets that have a ‘wow’ factor.”

Gary S: Licensed Master Plumber at Empire Plumbing

“I work primarily with gas lines, but when I was working on bathrooms, I just needed a wallet that could get wet and could handle some of the grease and grime. I probably needed a nylon wallet the most. Now that I’m working on gas inspections and things like that, the wallet type doesn’t matter, but I need a lot of room to work, so a big wallet won’t fit well in my pocket. Usually I need something small, like an ID wallet just so that I have what I need on me but it won’t be restricting”

Marc G: Dog Trainer at Chicago Dog Trainer

“Dogs don’t need business cards and they don’t have a lot of expenses. They do have a lot of slobber. Usually I just need a simple wallet that fits my essentials. Usually a sports wallet is good enough for all of my needs.”
